09 Νοέ Διάλεξη της Καθ. Julia O’Connell Davidson για τη “Σύγχρονη διαδικασία απεγκλωβισμού από τη δουλεία” μετά από εισαγωγή της Καθ. Bridget Anderson
Το Τμήμα Πολιτικών Δημόσιας Υγείας, Σχολή Δημόσιας Υγείας, Πανεπιστήμιο Δυτικής Αττικής, Πανεπιστημιούπολη Αθηνών, είχε την τιμή να φιλοξενήσει δύο διακεκριμένες Kοινωνιολόγους και μελετήτριες της μετανάστευσης: την Καθηγήτρια Julia O’Connell Davidson (Πανεπιστήμιο Bristol, Ηνωμένο Βασίλειο) η οποία πραγματοποίησε διάλεξη με θέμα “Modern Marronage: The Pursuit and Practice of Freedom in the Contemporary World” (“Η σύγχρονη διαδικασία απεγκλωβισμού από τη δουλεία: Η επιδίωξη και η πρακτική της ελευθερίας στον σύγχρονο κόσμο”), μετά από εισαγωγή της Καθηγήτριας Bridget Anderson (Πανεπιστήμιο του Μπρίστολ, Ηνωμένο Βασίλειο) στις 8 Νοεμβρίου 2022, στην Αίθουσα Εκδηλώσεων. Η Κοσμήτορας της Σχολής Δημόσιας Υγείας του Πανεπιστημίου Δυτικής Αττικής Καθηγήτρια Ελπίδα Πάβη και η Πρόεδρος του Τμήματος Πολιτικής Δημόσιας Υγείας Καθηγήτρια Τόνια Ναΐρ Βασιλάκου καλωσόρισαν τις ομιλήτριες. Ο Επίκουρος Καθηγητής Θεόδωρος Φούσκας πραγματοποίησε μια επισκόπηση του έργου της Καθηγήτριας O’Connell Davidson και της Καθητήτριας Anderson και συντόνισε την εκδήλωση που είχε σημαντική παρουσία από το ακαδημαϊκό προσωπικό, τους/τις φοιτητές/φοιτητριές του Πανεπιστημίου, τα μέλη και τον Πρόεδρο του Ελληνικού Οργανισμού Πολιτικών Επιστημόνων (ΕΟΠΕ) Δρ. Julia O’Connell Davidson is Professor in Social Research at the University of Bristol (UK). She studied Sociology and completed her PhD in the Department of Sociology at the University of Bristol. In her theoretical and research work she examines the various aspects of exploitation and violence that are often lumped together into the term “modern slavery”, issues of human trafficking for sexual exploitation, child labor. In 2001 together with Prof. Bridget Anderson (COMPAS, University of Oxford) they conducted research (ESRC) in several countries on the “demand side of human trafficking” via the sectors of sexual exploitation and domestic work. She currently holds an Advanced Grant from the European Research Council (ERC) for the project entitled “Modern Marronage: The Pursuit and Practice of Freedom in the Contemporary World”. Bridget Anderson is the Director of Migration Mobilities Bristol (MMB) and Professor of Migration, Mobilities and Citizenship at the School of Sociology, Politics and International Studies of the University of Bristol (UK). She completed her DPhil in the Department of Sociology at the University of Leicester and has previous training in Philosophy and Modern Languages (University of Oxford). In her theoretical and research work she examines the relations between migration, temporalities and future making claims, with a particular focus on precarity, labour market flexibilities and citizenship rights. She has pioneered an understanding of functions of immigration in essential economic sectors and worked closely with migrants’ organisations, trades unions and legal practitioners at international level.
